Chat Commands

We're using a heavily-modified version of the NWNX chat system to hook additional functionality onto the "self-tell" ability of Neverwinter Nights. In simple terms, this allows us to create "chat text commands" that you type directly into the chat bar (or attach to a quickslot). All these commands are case insensitive. Below is a list of currently implemented features. If you'd like to see a feature added to this system, please suggest it and, if we deem it worthwhile, we will attempt to get it implemented.

Details on how to read the table here.

Chat Commands

Speaking through an Associate

You can use the following commands to "speak" through an animal companion, dominated monster, familiar, henchman, or summon. Each must be prefixed with "/v" (standing for voice-throwing), followed by a single letter that identifies which creature to speak through, and finally a message to have that creature speak. Please keep in mind that some creatures are unable to speak; however, making these creatures emote is perfectly fine.

  • /v < a | d | f | h | s > <message>
    • a - animal companion
      d - dominated monster
      f - familiar
      h - henchman
      s - summoned creature
    • Example: "/v f Hello!" will make your familiar say "Hello!"

Text Commands

The following commands are more general and can be activated by typing "/c <command>," substituting <command> for one of the highlighted phrases below.

  • help [ identifier ]

  • Adds one or more entries with explanation on the selected identifier to your journal.

    • Example: "/c help" will list all the valid identifiers.
    • Example: "/c help pvp" will add all the PvP related entries to your journal.

  • detect < evil | good >

  • Attempt to detect evil or good within a set radius. Blackguard and paladin only.

    • Example: "/c detect evil" will make you attempt to detect evil.

  • efuss < add <skill> <value> | desc <skill> | help | list | roll <skill> | unspent >

  • Commands related to EFUSS.

    • Example: "/c efuss add archaeo 3" will attempt to increase the skill matching "archaeo" by 3, failing if more than one match is found.
    • Example: "/c efuss list" will list all available skills and current ranks in them.
    • Example: "/c efuss help" will display all available EFUSS commands.

  • track [ -race < x > [ -size < y > [ -name < z > ]]]

  • Activate the tracking ability. Druid and ranger only. More info available in the tracking FAQ.

    • Example: "/c track" will make you search for nearby tracks.
    • Example: "/c track -race giant" will make you search for nearby giant tracks.
    • Example: "/c track -race goblinoid -size medium" will make you search for nearby tracks of medium-sized goblinoids.
    • Example: "/c track -name musk creeper" will make you search for nearby tracks left by a musk creeper.

  • dispel < skins | invis | blur >

  • Dispel all active spell effects covered by the specified parameter.

skins - covers barkskin, stoneskin, and shadow shield.
invis - covers invisibility and sanctuary.
      blur - covers ghostly visage.
    • Example: "/c dispel skins" will strip you of any active effects among those listed above.

  • subdual < full | subdual | spar | next | prev >

  • Switch between the available damage modes to suit the current situation (i.e. spar for a friendly fight, full for a kill, etc.). By default, everybody has their damage mode set to subdual.

      full - full damage mode.
      subdual - subdual damage mode.
      spar - sparring damage mode.
next - cycle to the next damage mode.
prev - cycle to the previous damage mode.
    • Example: "/c subdual spar" will make you do only light damage as if you were sparring somebody.

  • hostile < name | nearest | radius | area | all >

  • These commands have the same effect as setting somebody on the player list to "Dislike," except no notice is sent. Using this command is not a hostile action -- that somebody is glowing bright red does not mean battle is going to ensue (nor, for that matter, can you character see a red aura or anything).

name - set yourself hostile to the specified character.
nearest - set yourself hostile to the character nearest you.
radius - set yourself hostile to everyone in line of sight within a set radius.
area - set yourself hostile to everyone currently in the same area as you.
all - set yourself hostile to everyone on the server.
    • Example: "/c hostile Thoop" will make you hostile towards Thoop.

  • setbackpack < backpack [ 2 ] | quiver [ 2 ] | scabbard [ a [ 2 ] | b [ 2 ] | 2 ] | greatsword | bazooka | none >

  • Apply a backpack or similar item to your character, in real time. Each option is a unique model, none removing any current model.
  • swivel < x >

  • If the chair you're sitting on is a swivel chair, use this command to rotate it.

x - number of degrees to rotate by.
    • Example: "/c swivel 45" will rotate your chair by 45 degrees.

  • catapult < aim | angle_up | angle_down | power_up | power_down | status >

  • Catapult controls. These commands are not necessary to fire catapults.

aim - aim the catapult in your direction.
      angle_up - increase the catapult's angle.
      angle_down - decrease the catapult's angle.
      power_up - increase the catapult's tension.
      power_down - lower the catapult's tension.
status - displays a status report for the catapult.
    • Example: "/c catapult power_down" will lower the tension of the nearest catapult.

  • wereshift < base | hybrid | animal >

  • Lycanthropes may use these commands to shift between available forms.

base - shift to base form.
hybrid - shift to hybrid form.
animal - shift to animal form.
    • Example: "/c wereshift hybrid" will shift a lycanthrope to its hybrid form.

  • knock

    • Example: "/c knock" will make you knock on the nearest door. You must be very close to the door for this to work.

  • glowyeyes

    • Example: "/c glowyeyes" will activate or deactivate glowing eyes, provided a DM has enabled these for you.

  • desc < reset | set <s> | app <s> | rep <s1 WITH s2> >

  • Modify your description. Note that any and all changes are irreversible.

To insert a linebreak, use the #NL# identifier.
    • Example: "/c desc reset" will restore whatever description you had when you first logged in with the character.
    • Example: "/c desc set John" will replace your description with John.
    • Example: "/c desc app #NL#Doe" will append a linebreak followed by Doe to your description.
    • Example: "/c desc rep John WITH Jane" will replace the first occurence of John with Jane.

  • diagnose < name >

  • Based on your Heal skill, attempt to find out if the target is ill. The command does not identify symptoms, nor will it tell you exactly what's wrong with the target.

name - the character to diagnose.
    • Example: "/c diagnose Thoop" will tell you if Thoop is, for instance, diseased..

  • recall

  • Recalls all current, stuck associates (animal companions, familiars, etc.). Works best with plenty of open space around you.
    • Example: "/c recall" will port all associates to your general area.

  • drop_pack [ purse | everything ]

  • Drop your pack on the ground. If no parameters are specified, all gold and inventory items will be dropped.

      purse - all gold.
everything - gold and all items equipped or in inventory.
    • Example: "/c drop_pack purse" will drop all your gold on the ground.

  • yank_pack [ purse | quick | everything ]

  • Yank the nearest subdued or bleeding character's pack onto the ground. If no parameters are specified, gold and inventory items will be yanked. Four second duration.

purse - yanks gold. Two second duration.
quick - yanks gold and readily accessible equipped items (like a weapon). Three second duration.
everything - yanks gold, equipped items, and inventory. Five second duration.
    • Example: "/c yank_pack quick" will make you stoop to grab items as per the above specification from the nearest valid, automatically chosen target.

  • collect_pack

  • Automatically pick up all items in a dropped pack that belongs to you.

    • Example: "/c collect_pack" will make you collect your pack if you're close enough.

Parsed Emotes

You can activate a rudimentary emote parser by typing "/e <emote>," substituting <emote> for any of the emotes listed here. Popular examples include
  • Example: "/e falls" to fall forward.
  • Example: "/e falls back" to fall backward.
  • Example: "/e stands up" to stand back up again.
  • Example: "/e bends" to reach down to the ground.
  • Example: "/e casts" to wave your arms about as though casting a spell.

You can also use "/c toggle parse_emotes" to turn dynamic emote parsing on. This will search through everything that you say in the Talk channel and play emotes that it finds. To avoid having this be annoying, it only responds to specific emotes; *reads* will trigger an animation of you reading a note or scroll, but not *reads the sign*. Once activated, this can be deactivated using the same command.

Rolling Dice

You can roll skill checks, ability checks, saves, or just arbitrary dice using either "/c roll " or just speaking "*roll *," substituting <dice phrase> for one of the possibilities below:

    (skill/ability) check - Roll a (skill/ability) check.
    • Example: "/c roll int check" will make you roll an Intelligence ability check.
    • Example: "/c roll lore check" will make you roll a Lore skill check.
    • Example: "*roll lore check*" will also make you roll a Lore skill check.

    (will/fort/reflex) save - Roll a (will/fortitude/reflex) save.
    • Example: "/c roll will save" will make you roll a Will save.

    (melee/ranged) attack - Roll a (melee/ranged) attack roll.
    • Example: "/c roll melee attack" will make you roll a melee attack roll (Strength modifier + BAB + d20).
    • Example: "*roll ranged attack*" will make you roll a ranged attack roll (Dexterity modifier + BAB + d20).

#d# - Roll an arbitrary number of arbitrary dice.
    • Example: "/c roll 3d10" will roll three ten-sided dice and report their sum.
    • Example: "*roll 1d20*" will roll one twenty-sided die and report the result.
    • Example: "/c roll d20" will roll one twenty-sided die and report the result.
    • Example: "*roll 21d7*" will roll twenty-one seven-sided dice and report their sum.
Effectively a hijacking of the NWN engine for its own creative purposes, EfU is the type of original, inventive and inspired pocket of genius the internet is supposed to throw up frequently, yet one so rarely actually sees.
